Michael Twitty,
the oldest son of Conway Twitty, will bring
his electrifying show "Memories of Conway"
to Jeff Green Memorial Park on Saturday,
September 18th. Twitty performs the show
over 200 times a year and has taken his
father's memory world-wide with shows from
Japan to Europe. The son of one of country
music's greatest entertainers will bring
back the memories of his father with such
songs as "Hello Darlin", "It's Only Make
Believe", and "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi
Man". This is one show you don't want to
miss! Make plans to come see the show and
visit with Twitty on this very special day.

Stephen Pride is
riding the wave from his critically
acclaimed first album called "Pride on the
Wild Side". Pride is the younger brother of
country music legend Charley Pride and has
begun his vault to music stardom himself.
Pride has been performing with such stars as
Willie Nelson and Johnny Rodrigeuz and
recently made a special appearance in
Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry being
introduced by his brother Charley. Stephen
Pride will open up the "Country Music
Concert" at Jeff Green Park on Saturday,
September 18th.

"Community-Wide Yard Sale"
Get out your tables, clean
out the closets and garage, and set up a
yard sale at your house or business. Many
customers will travel the streets of Hickman
looking for the bargain of a lifetime! The
Pecan Festival is underway!
Yard sales start at 7:00.

"Pecan Festival
Photography Contest Entrants"
All participants in the
photo contest must have their entries turned
in by 12:00 noon at the Hickman Public
Library, on Moscow Avenue.
Photo’s must be printed
and framed in 4"x6" size, with the name,
phone number and category placed on the
back. Frames will not be judged, nor
enhance possibility of winning.
All
contestants must be of amateur status and
live in Fulton County, with photo’s judged
on categories within the boundaries of
Fulton County only.
Categories for this year’s
event include:
People
Flowers
Landscape
Black and White
and Best Photo by age
17-Under
Ribbons for 1st,
2nd and 3rd place will
be awarded in each category, with the
exception of 17-Under, along with a "Best of
Show" ribbon.
All rules must be adhered
to by all contestants.
"Trap Shoot on the
River"
All hunters and sportsmen
are invited to participate in a trap shoot
at the Elvis Stahr Harbor.
The shoot will begin at
1:00 and will include shoots of up to seven
participants.
Winners in each round will
be awarded ham’s, with a grand shoot for
$100.
Sign-up will start at
12:30 in the harbor, with each round $3.00.

"Pecan Festival Prayer on the Bluff"
Come to the pavilion on the scenic
Hickman bluff
for a community
prayer for our city, schools, festival
and
military.

Festival Photography Contest Judging"
Judges will review all
entries in the photography contest at the
Hickman Public Library. Winners will be
announced and photos will be on display all
week for public viewing.

"County Fair Style
Pecan Dessert Bake-Off"
For all of the wonderful
dessert specialists we have in Hickman!
Bakers may participate in any, or all, of
the bake-off categories: (1) pecan pie (2)
pecan brownies (3) pecan fudge (4) pecan
specialty. Turn items in to HRTCC members at
the community room of the Citizens Bank, in
a non-returnable container. All entries must
be pre-cut for sampling by our judges. All
remaining desserts will be served at
tonight's kick-off at the Hickman
Courthouse. Best of show awards will be
announced tonight.

"Pecan Festival Kickoff
at the Courthouse"
What a great time of fun,
food and fellowship will take place tonight
in the beauty of the Hickman Courthouse.
Activities will include a
"Best Decorated" bicycle parade for youth
category ages 4-thru-6, 7-thru-9 and
10-thru-12. A "Best Decorated" pulled wagon
parade will be held for children 0-thru-4,
and a "Best Decorated" 4-wheeler parade will
also take place. Trophies will be awarded to
the top three judged winners, with all
receiving honors.
Pet lovers are also
encouraged to participate in the "Best
Dressed Pet" to show off their treasured
"friends".
Competition will be fierce
as the annual ‘Wheelchair Race" will be run
on the streets in front of the courthouse.
Come see what group takes the championship
this year!
The night will also
feature the special appearance by movie and
television stars Shrek, Spider-Man and
Cookie Monster! Make sure to bring your
camera’s to get photo’s with the kids.
Winners from today’s
‘Pecan Festival Bake-Off" will be announced
and a cake walk featuring items from
Hickman’s best bakers will take place.
An inflatable slide will
be on site for all kids to enjoy and special
music will be performed by local
entertainers.
The members of the Hickman
Recreation and Tourist Commission will be
cooking hamburgers and hot dogs, so make
plans to enjoy supper with the board members
as you sit along the streets of this
beautiful location.

"A Salute to our Soldiers and
Veterans"
Come share a moment as we
pay respects to all who have served our
country, and to all who serve today. Service
will include Hickman American Legion Post 57
and a guest speaker.
All veterans and their

Come to the Hickman Public
Library to this free lecture and
demonstration on how to start and expand
your search for your family ancestors. The
session will be instructed this year by
Phyllis Simmons and Roy Miller, dedicated
local residents with many tricks and tools
to learning your past history. Be sure to
bring your notebook and pencil and get ready
to start an exciting journey to your past.

This year we are asking
all area residents, and all churches, to
converge to the "Hickman Bluff" for a night
of community singing, special music and a
guest speaker. Let’s bring back the "good
old days" of community fellowship and praise
to the Lord for all we have received.
Worship in the view of the Mississippi
River! Don’t forget to bring your lawn
chair.

Bring the kids to the park
for an afternoon of fun, games and

"The Danger of Electricity
Demonstration"
The Hickman-Fulton County
Rural Electric Cooperative is sponsoring a
demonstration on the dangers and safety
precautions concerning electricity. The
traveling demonstration features safety tips
and life saving ways to keep alerted to
situations that include downed power lines.
This is a very "hands on" exhibit that all
need to see!

entertainer, or sponsor is encouraged to contact
any HRTCC member or by calling Charles Choate at

Vendor Days for this year's festival at Jeff Green
Memorial Park will be Friday, September 17th and
Saturday, September 18th. All local and out of
state vendors are welcome to participate.
The
Recreation and Tourist Commission is also
encouraging area civic, church, school, and other
businesses and groups to be a part of the festival
days in the park by setting up a booth. There will
be no charge for vendor participation this year.
The
17th Annual Pecan Festival is expected to be the
most exciting community event of the year! Be sure
to make your plans to participate and attend the
daily activities during the week.

"A Great Week
in the Community"


The
headlining Van-Dells put on a tremendous show for
the Pecan Festival crowd. Audience members were
taken back in time with hits from the 50s and 60s
along with comedy and costume change.


The
Pecan Festival crowd was treated with a classic
country group from the past which included local
residents from the area. "Lloyd Bradley and the
Midnight Rangers" put on a super show for all
their friends and family members in attendance.
Good job!!

"Tommy Sanders and Greater Vision" entertained
the crowd with an inspiring gospel set. We thank
Bro. Tommy, his wife, and band members for the
great show!


The
Blues Brothers Tribute was again a huge success
for the Festival crowd. Thanks to Hunter and Rick
and all the supporting cast for making the show so
special!

Kevin
Castleberry returned to the Pecan Festival.

"Cowboy
Poet Woody Woodruff" came "back home" to
entertain and visit with friends. We are always
glad to have Woody at the Festival and appreciate
his positive outlook on his hometown.

West
Hickman Baptist song leader Tim Langford led this
group in three songs as part of the Community
Choir to open the Festival at Jeff Green park.
Thanks to all that participated, you sounded
really good!

Fulton
County Middle, High School, and Little Peppers
cheerleaders entertained the crowd during the noon
hour of the festival. Good job girls!

do-wop group "Blend" (L) and the
country/rock group "Sideways" performed
Friday night in front of a big crowd at the park.
Weekly Events


The
River-Rat 5k Fun Run and Walk kicked off the
festival. A good group turned out to begin the
event and congratulations to Matthew Whitt and
Wanda Parker for being category winners.

These
City and County representatives were honored
during the celebration for the "Ice Storm
Volunteers". Each were presented prints of a photo
of Hickman during the height of the ice storm in
January. (L to R) Tony Grogan, Hickman Police
Chief; Robbie Woods, Fulton Co. Sheriff Dept;
Larry Myatt, Hickman City Manager; Dale Vowell,
Manager Hickman Electric System; David Gallagher,
Fulton County Judge Executive; and Tony Butler,
Chief of the Hickman-Fulton County Rescue Squad.
Also honored during the event, but not pictured,
was Greg Grissom, Manager of the Hickman-Fulton
County Rural Electric Coop, and Dr. Charles
Holiday, Superintendent of the Fulton County
School District. We thank each of you for the
great job you did in representing your business or
department during the storm and to all other
community volunteers for their dedicated
assistance.

Broadcasting President Paul Tinkle was given the City of
Hickman's "Admirable Admiral" award during the Ice
Storm ceremony. Thunderbolt Broadcasting was instrumental in
providing crucial information, including food, water, and
shelter, to many area residents during the power outage
associated with the storm. |

Members of the community look over the Martin Luther King, Jr.

A good
crowd turned out to participate in the annual Supper and Bingo
sponsored by the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hickman.

Climbing Your Family Tree instructor Phyllis Simmons (left) looks

Miller also looks over some genealogy information during the
session. We thank Phyllis for her efforts each year during the Pecan
Festival to assist those in the community in their search for their
ancestors.


Elvis
Presley's step-brother, Rick Stanley, was the featured speaker at
the Pecan Festival Community Prayer Service at West Hickman Baptist
Church. A large crowd of people turned out to hear the testimony of
Stanley. (Clockwise) West Hickman Baptist Youth perform a play,
Stanley speaks to the large crowd, and visits with West Baptist
pastor Jason Sipes and Donnie Lane after the event.

Local
author Rebeca Seitz discusses her four novel series titled "Sisters
Ink". The book reading and signing, along with a reception, was
held at the Public Library and attended by local residents and a
Fulton County School class.



Kids
Day at the Park was a big event this year. The kids were treated to
a magical show with "Magical Minks", participated in the always
popular "Egg Drop", rode the hay-ride, and took part in the BB gun
shoot. All the kids were also treated to hot dogs and drinks from
the Hickman Recreation and Tourist Commission board. Special thanks
to Larry Minks, Dale Vowell, and Blake Eakes, along with Chad Parker
and Merry Williams for assisting with the kids event.

Davis for the super job they do for the Hickman Pecan Festival. They
have both been a part of the festival for many years and are the
major reason behind the spectacular sound that comes from the groups

the City during the Pecan Festival. This is a great event for this
